Kolkata : City of Joy

 Kolkata, the City of Joy, is the capital of West Bengal and one of the most populous cities in India. It is located on the east bank of the Hooghly River and is known for its rich culture, art, literature, music and food. Kolkata has been a major center of education, commerce and industry since the 19th century.

Kolkata was founded by Job Charnock in 1690 as a trading post for the East India Company. It soon became an important port city and was known as Calcutta until 2001 when it was officially renamed Kolkata. The city has a long history of political activism and has been at the forefront of many social movements in India.

Kolkata is home to some of India’s most iconic landmarks such as Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, Indian Museum and Eden Gardens. The city also boasts some of India’s best educational institutions such as Presidency University, Jadavpur University and Calcutta University.

The city has a rich cultural heritage with numerous theaters showcasing plays in Bengali as well as English language productions from around the world. Kolkata also hosts several music festivals throughout the year featuring both traditional Indian music as well as contemporary genres like rock and jazz. 

Kolkata is home to some of India’s best sports teams including Mohun Bagan A C., East Bengal F C., ATK Mohun Bagan F C., Mohammedan S C., Calcutta Cricket & Football Club (CCFC) among others who compete in various national leagues including I-League 2nd Division League (I-League 2), I-League 1st Division League (I-League 1) etc..  The city also hosts several international sporting events such as cricket matches between India vs Pakistan or Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka etc..

 Kolkata is well connected by airways with regular flights operating from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport to major cities across India like Delhi, Mumbai etc..  There are also regular trains connecting Kolkata to other parts of West Bengal like Siliguri or Darjeeling or even other states like Bihar or Uttar Pradesh etc..
